Incorporating Rustic Style Doors into Your Home

Doors have character, and say more about your home than you may realize. If you want to have your home celebrate and embrace the beauty and spirit of nature, one of the ways available is by having Rustic style doors. As the name implies, Rustic style homes tend to use natural elements such as timber or stone in the construction, and interiors tend to stick with hardwood and accents with other wood types. Also sometimes called Mountain homes, the design replicates the beauty and atmosphere of the great outdoors, giving it a simple charm.

Rustic style doors can not only be used in homes of the same style, but they can also be used in Mediterranean style homes, Cottage style homes, and, in fact, any place where the wood adds to the country nature of the design.

Originally used in North America during the 17th to the mid-19th centuries, they were built more for security than for style, and are vertical planks held together by battens. But while the name may imply this basic design it started out with, modern day doors in this style give you more options. Many rustic doors now have the option to include treatments, detailing, and even iron accessories or designs in the door front, giving your home a secure yet enchanting addition. In fact, modern day Rustic style doors have evolved to be more elegant while still maintaining the natural appearance. There’s even the option of using decorative nails in the door itself.

Since it’s a wooden look, the knots and color variations give the door added appeal. In fact, the door can use reclaimed lumber, making it somewhat environmentally friendly as well. Rustic style can be used both as an entry door as well as interior doors.

While these types of doors can be made of mahogany or oak or other heavy woods, they can also be simulated plank or fiberglass, giving you the look of the wood but not being as expensive. Both of these options can still look like wood grain, and match the hand-craftsmanship of the more traditional Rustic style.

The look is country, yet has that touch of antique about it to keep it good looking. If you’re a lover of nature and want your home to mirror that passion, choosing Rustic style doors can be a simple yet elegant way to show that side of your personality.
