Southwestern home style (including Adobe, Pueblo, Spanish Revival, and Mission styles) is rooted in early Spanish-controlled America—now New Mexico, Arizona, and southern California. This style is characterized by stucco construction in earth-tone colors, rough textures, rounded corners at intersections, flat roofs drained by canales (jutting water spouts), and an abundance of terra cotta and clay tile roofs. The style often includes rows of vigas (beams that protrude through exterior walls and provide structural support for the roof), and recessed windows and doors, with roughly hewn lintels (headers, or horizontal supports, above windows and doors). Interiors include wood beams and brick floors. Wood doors are a common element, with either square or arched tops.
