Modern Doors for Modern Homes

Modern Home

Sleek lines and open-concept layouts are hallmarks of Modern-style home design. And choosing the right doors is an important component to achieving design coherence.

The 3-lite door (SQ-0003-D005-W) shown here is a perfect example of the Modern aesthetic. Made of select Alder wood, the Satin glass style nicely pairs with Sun Mountain’s rich Mocha stain finish. It is one of the interior doors in a Colorado foothills home.

Below (far left) is another modern stile-and-rail door, built for a contemporary Texas home. The 7-panel, 3-lite design (TF-0703-D033) in an alternating pattern is at the same time unexpected and perfectly balanced—a characteristic typical of Modern design. Made of select Red Oak (shown unfinished), this door also features Sun Mountain’s A1-MV panel and sticking profile, which nicely emphasizes the design.

Flush doors are another favorite choice for Modern homes. These flat surfaced doors are manufactured with a frame and core material covered with a smooth wood veneer.

Above (second from left) is a mixed-species and grain pattern example (SQ-0000-F016); the larger door surface is made of horizontal grain Maple, while the narrow band at the door’s left side is made of select Cherry, with the grain set in a vertical direction. The door is finished in Sun Mountain’s Yampa River glaze. This interior door was built for a home in Sedona, AZ. Next (SQ-0000-F138-10W) is an exterior flush door, also destined for Sedona. Made of rift-sawn select White Oak with custom glaze, here the grain is oriented horizontally. The door’s most notable feature is the ten-inch stainless steel inlay placed at what is traditionally the “lock rail position.” On the far right (SQ-0000-F003) is a flush door with vertical wood grain accentuated by a single vertical kerf cut into the door’s surface six inches from the left edge. Made of select White Oak and finished in Sun Mountain’s Glacier Point glaze, this is one of the interior doors built for a home in Colorado Springs, CO.

And, from an urban Denver, CO, home, is this pair of uncomplicated stile-and-rail 1-panel Modern doors (SQ-0100-D001-C), made of select Poplar with Sun Mountain’s Mocha stain finish. The square (A1) sticking profile is a nice, simple detail of the Modern style.
