Door of the Week – Reclaimed Oak with Alder

This is another great door provided to a beautiful custom home in Breckenridge, Colorado—though a very different type of project and style of door. Two different species of wood were used on this door—Knotty Alder for the outer components (stiles and rails), and Reclaimed White Oak for the inner panels. Reclaimed Oak is sourced from old barns and other structures that are often over 50 years old. The buildings are uninhabitable, but the original lumber is salvaged (Reclaimed), de-nailed, and can be integrated into new woodworking projects. This particular wood was once siding on a barn, and has now been re-purposed into a structurally sound rustic style door! Original nail holes, rust marks from the iron nails, and even circular saw marks from the original woodcutter are all visible on the wood. All of the original weather patterns remain in the lumber, providing a patina with a unique luster.
